Login to the server via RDP and run regedit
Modify the registry value to disable 8.3 name creation on Windows server.
From the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE -> SYSTEM -> CurrentControlSet -> Control -> FileSystem, change the value NtfsDisable8dot3NameCreation from 0 to 1.
You may experience problems installing Office 97 if you disable 8.3 name creation and may have to re-enable it during the installation of the software.
