In order to enable direct edit on the configuration file of IIS, metabase.xml you need to make the following changes on IIS
1. Open IIS
2. Right click on the server object and take properties
3 Check the column "Enable direct edit on metabase'
4. Save and restart IIS.
If you are going for direct metabase edit without making this change, most probably you will end up in IIS crash.
